Chinese language courses

VUB Confucius Institute is happy to announce the newly established Chinese language courses at the VUB Etterbeek campus in Brussels. Find out more on the estanblishment of VUB Confucius Institute by clicking here.

Are you a beginner who is eager to discover and learn Chinese?
Can you speak some Chinese but want to improve?
Can you speak and write Chinese fluently but want to refine your knowledge?

If your answer to any of these questions is ‘yes’, then consider following the language courses organized by the VUB Confucius Institute.  You will be immersed in the Chinese language and learn with a native speaker. The language courses are open to anyone who wants to learn and practise Chinese.

WHAT AND FOR WHOM?

Group lessons

There are courses for every level: beginner, intermediate and advanced. The class sizes are deliberately kept small to allow the teacher to differentiate between individual students’ needs. Discovering Chinese culture through the Chinese language is also an aim of the courses.

Students who attend the classes for beginners can also enrol for a weekly one hour practice session.

Selected students who follow the VUB Confucius Institute Chinese language courses will be offered the opportunity to join a Chinese language and culture summer school in China.

Private lessons

Private, tailor-made lessons can be organized on request. You will be taught Chinese one-on-one with attention being paid to your level, needs, and goals. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to vub-ci@vub.ac.be.

WHEN?

Group lessons

The courses will start at the beginning of the second semester, in the week of 8 – 14 February 2016, and end during the week of 6 – 12 June 2016. If you enrol for a course of 3 hours a week, you will have 45 hours of classes per semester. If you enrol for a course of 2 hours you will have 30 hours per semester. The VUB academic calendar will be followed; you can consult the calendar here.

INFORMATION ON THE DIFFERENT APPROACHES OF EACH LEVEL

Beginner

Intermediate and advanced

A language is part of its culture. Discovering Chinese culture through the Chinese language is an aim of these language courses. Instead of seeing language as a tool, you will be trained to view language as the vessel of its culture, for literary interests, business objectives and intercultural management.

>> If you are in doubt about which level to start at, you can contact the teacher personally. Together you will schedule a written and oral exam before the classes begin. If you are interested in this pre-assessment write an e-mail to vub-ci@vub.ac.be. We will put you in contact with your teacher.
