“Chinese people believe in ‘doing right things at the right time, in the right place, and with the right people’, the new Chinese Ambassador in Belgium, QU Xing, pointed out in his inauguration speech early this year. Clearly, he must have considered visiting VUB as the first university of the country to be perfectly in line with that vision. After all VUB has a long tradition when it comes to scientific and cultural collaboration with the big Asian brother.
Thus, on January 13th, rector Paul de Knop, along with vice-rector Jan Cornelis, professor Hans De Wolf and members of the International Office IRMO, warmly welcomed the Chinese delegation at Etterbeek campus.
The new ambassador was offered insight in the extensive VUB-China collaboration. It includes amongst others a newly established network and the new platform BACES (Brussels Academy of China and European Studies), PhD scholarship programmes, a Privileged International Partnership, cultural programmes and events, etc.
In the meeting important items such as the creation of English Bachelor programmes, accommodation, scholarship and joint lab issues were discussed.
The delegation finished its visit in the VUB’s Robotics Laboratory.
